MMA UFC 222: Max Holloway v. Frankie Edgar cancelled once again due to Holloway injury UFC 223 is in desperate need of a new main event as Max Holloway steps away from the card by Daniel Yanofsky February 3, 2018 It looks like the MMA Gods do not want fight fans to see Max Holloway face off against Frankie Edgar. A few weeks before UFC 222, it was announced that Max Holloway had to withdraw from the fight. The UFC Featherweight Champion suffered a leg injury while training. ESPN was the first to report the news. This is the second time that a scheduled bout between Holloway and Edgar had to be cancelled. They were supposed to fight at UFC 218, but an injury to Edgar (22-5-1) cancelled those plans. The New Jersey native got rid of the ring rust at UFC 211 back in May of 2017 against Yair Rodriguez. Holloway (19-3) faced against Jose Aldo for the second time, defeating him once again to become the undisputed champion. After a brief delay, a chance at redemption seemed like the obvious choice. Now we are going to have to wait a little longer. As will Frankie Edgar, who is going through a big layoff between fights. Holloway’s sudden injury is just one of the latest anomalies affecting the UFC. Already two months into 2018, and several fighters have had to be taken off fight cards. Lets put things into a clearer perspective, shall we? httpss://twitter.com/MikeBohnMMA/status/959866732046311425 httpss://twitter.com/MikeBohnMMA/status/959875031693107200 That is a frightening trend, especially if you are the UFC. Whether it’s freak accidents or issues with weight cuts, something might need to be done about this. It’s especially concerning considering the fighter involved. This is the first time Holloway has pulled out of a fight, which is incredible considering his workhorse mindset. He’s fought in 18 fights in the last six years with the UFC. Only Donald Cerrone is that active and you can see over the past few months how that has been affecting him. The injury to Holloway also threatens the status of UFC 222, which while isn’t the weakest event the UFC has put out, badly needed that title fight. The company is trying to schedule Edgar v. Brian Ortega, and have also reached out to T.J. Dillashaw and Cody Garbrandt for a rematch. The second option was to no avail, but the first one still has a chance in happening. Round and round we go. Will we ever get a Holloway v. Edgar fight? What will be done about the UFC 222 main event? The UFC will have a lot of questions to answer in a limited mount of time. They are hoping it won’t be a recent theme as more big events come up. Post Views: 1,773 The following two tabs change content below.BioLatest Posts Daniel Yanofsky Baseball Editor, Misc.
