New Yorkers, get excited!

The world famous Madison Square Garden is just the first of multiple New York venues the Ultimate Fighting Championship plans on hosting upcoming fight nights over the next year.

At the UFC 204 Press Conference last Friday, VP of Public Relations Dave Sholler announced the organization has scheduled a UFC Fight Night at the Times Union Center in Albany, NY on Friday December 9.

Tuesday, Newsday reported that the firm who took over the legendary Nassau Coliseum in Uniondale, Brooklyn Sports & Entertainment, is in talks with the UFC to host an event there.

Barry Baum, the spokesman for Brooklyn Sports & Entertainment, told Newsday, “We are in discussion with the UFC to bring MMA to the Coliseum and want it to be a regular occurrence.”

The Coliseum is currently under a $260.5 million dollar renovation.

Since New York State legalized mixed martial marts back in March, the UFC has been heavily promoting their anticipated debut in the Empire State with UFC 205 at MSG on November 12.

Match ups for the historical fight cards have yet to be announced. The first bout rumored to be in the works for UFC 205 is former UFC Light Heavyweight champion Rashad Evans against UFC Middleweight Tim Kennedy.

With the growing amount of professional mixed martial artists on the UFC roster hailing out of Long Island, hosting a fight night would an easy sell for the promotion.

Former UFC Middleweight Champion and Baldwin-native Chris Weidman told Newsday on Tuesday, “It would mean everything to fight here. Fighting at Nassau Coliseum would be special.”

Who would you like to see headline at the new Nassau Coliseum?
