The United States Women’s National Soccer Team had a year to remember in 2015.

The team, led by captain and NJ native, Christie Rampone, won the 2015 Fifa Women’s World Cup. This was their first World Cup Title since 1999. They also captured the 2015 Algarve Cup.

Throughout the entire calendar year of 2015, the USWNT lost just two matches, ironically, their first and last friendlies of the year. Overall, the team went 20-2-4.

After such a successful year, the United States Women’s National Team was named the Women’s Team of the Year in our 2015 Double G Sports Awards.

One can argue the national team would not have had the campaign it did without New Jersey native Carli Lloyd. Particularly in the Women’s World Cup, Lloyd was the talk of the nation. Her performance was nothing short of brilliant. From the World Cup Round of 16 through the Finals, Lloyd scored six of the teams 10 goals. She would scored a huge penalty kick goal in the Semi-Finals against Germany. That alone would have been remembered forever, but she topped that.

In the Finals, Lloyd would score, not once, not twice, but three times! Her hat-trick led to a 5-1 USA win over Japan.

Lloyd has been named our Female Athlete of the Year and also received the award for Moment of the Year for her hat-trick in the World Cup Finals.
