Basketball USA Men’s Basketball dominates China by Daniel Popoloski August 7, 2016 The United States Men’s team began their road to the gold medal, dominating China in the opening game, 119-62. Kevin Durant led the way with 25 points, as the team only trailed once, when the score was 2-0 in the beginning. Every single member of Team USA scored in the opening match. Three other players scored in double digits, with DeMarcus Cousins having 17, Paul George chipped in 15, and East Orange’s Kyrie Irving added 12 as well. The Chinese team couldn’t get anything going offensively, with them coughing up 24 turnovers throughout the entire game. Yi Jianlian led them with 25 points, with no other Chinese player even coming up with double digits. In an exhibition game before the Olympics started, the United States dominated China to a tune o f 107-57. Most other teams in the draw can’t compete with America’s athleticism, or their collection of NBA stars. Team China boasted only two former NBA players, including Jianlian and former second round pick Zhou Qi. The United States will continue their march to gold when they take on Venezuela Monday at 6 P.M. After winning the past two consecutive gold medals, the United States are the presumptive favorites to win the gold medals in both men’s and women’s. The women kick off their journey against Senegal August 7th, at 11 A.M.
