Villanova Basketball wins 2016 Double G Sports Award for College Men’s Team of the Year

The voting has ended and the winners have been announced in the 2016 Double G Sports awards. This category is for College Men’s Team of the Year. Here is a look at the nominees.

Connecticut Basketball

Villanova Basketball

Fordham Football

Hofstra Basketball

And the winner of the 2016 Double G Sports College Men’s Team of the Year is the, Villanova Wildcats.

The year of 2016 was one of magic for Villanova as the Wildcats won the National Championship in April over the North Carolina Tar Heels on a last-second three-pointer from Kris Jenkins. It was Villanova’s first national title since 1985 and their 35 wins were the most in the program’s 96 year history.

In addition to the NCAA Championship, Villanova was the Big East regular season champions (16-2) and the winners of the NIT Season Tip-Off champions as well. Villanova also reached number one in the AP poll, the first time the program had reached that spot in the school’s history. Villanova has continued building on their success by starting the 2016-2017 season 14-0 and number one in the country, a position they have been at since December.
