WATCH: Rutgers Football Is “RU Strong”

“This is ‘R’ family. And this is ‘R’ state.

Rutgers released a new promotional hype video on their Official Inside Rutgers Football YouTube channel just a few minutes ago to help usher in the new era dubbed #AshEra on social media.

The video features great narration as it highlights the “block R”. It contains clips from around campus, spring practice, walking out of the tunnel, and moments from the past like the “blackout crowds”, Ray Rice, Brian Leonard and more.

“The ‘R’. To some it’s just a letter, but to others, it’s a legacy.”

In just a few short months, the first-year head coach has mended relationships around the state of New Jersey and beyond, changed the culture in and around the program, and is recruiting at a high level. Yes, National Signing Day isn’t until February 2017, but so far Ash has compiled the No. 23-ranked recruiting class in the nation according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings. Among the 10 commitments, eight are from the Garden State, including highly-regarded offensive tackle Micah Clark (St. John Vianney Regional), receiver Bo Melton (Cedar Creek), quarterback Jonathan Lewis (St. Peter’s Prep), and running back Jonathan Taylor (Salem) among others. The “Fence The Garden” initiative has been working in recruiting to play and represent your home state.

However, Ash has yet to be the coach in charge and the team has yet to play in the gauntlet of the Big Ten under his watch. Their upcoming 2016 schedule features five teams ranked inside the top-25 in the early addition of Athlon Sports Top-25 released yesterday.

With new offensive and defensive scheme changes, there will growing pains, and with a roster that is short of depth and talent to compete in the Big Ten, it could be a challenge. Ash has been honest when he says they are not where they need to be, but Ash, strength coach Kenny Parker, and the entire staff have shaped and changed the program for the better in a short amount of time.

Rutgers fans have to be breathing fresh air and feeling excitement regarding the Scarlet Knight’s these days, and this video will surely have fans itching to get back to High Point Solutions Stadium in Piscataway and watch this team play for years to come.
