Who Should be the Eagles Starting Quarterback?

Philadelphia Eagles head coach Chip Kelly made a very tough decision releasing QB Nick Foles, who could have been another Ron Jaworski or Donavon McNabb and led the Eagles to success if he had come back healthy either last season or the 2015-2016 season. Kelly and the Eagles organization traded Foles to the St. Louis Rams for their #1 overall Draft pick in 2008, Sam Bradford.

Before breaking his collarbone in the 2014 season, Nick Foles had a remarkable 2013 season. He stepped in for QB Michael Vick and threw for 27 TDs and only 2 INTs, including a 7-TD game against the Oakland Raiders. Unfortunately, Foles slacked the next season, and wound up missing most of the season due to injury. He did, however, leave a 5-2 record for the next quarterback, former Jets QB Mark Sanchez.

Sanchez led the Jets to two straight AFC Championship games in the 2008 and 2009 seasons, but then lost his starting job in the 2013 season to QB Geno Smith, so he was released, then signed with the Eagles. Sanchez started against the Houston Texans. He led the Eagles to a win in Houston and a 6-2 record. After the Thanksgiving game win at their NFC East rival Dallas Cowboys, the Eagles just had to win at home against the defending Super Bowl champions Seattle Seahawks to win the NFC East title.

Unfortunately, the Eagles lost that game, as well as the next two games to the Cowboys and the Washington Redskins to miss the playoffs. There are a lot of questions now that things have changed in Philadelphia. The biggest question seems to be which of the four QBs competing for the starting job will start Week 1 next season?

Sam Bradford seems to be in the front running for the job. The only problem is he’s torn his ACL twice in the last two seasons, and his record is far below .500 (18-30-1). He should not be trusted to lead the Eagles to the promise land. Mark Sanchez showed early success in his starts in the 2014 season, but his slack led the Eagles to miss the playoffs. The Eagles also signed QB Tim Tebow this offseason. After seeing success in Denver, Tebow played with the Jets, a team that hasn’t had success in a few years. Being in New England, it was obvious that he wasn’t to have much action, as he was sitting behind the great Tom Brady.

In Philadelphia, a franchise that has seen success as of late, and where the competition is wide open, Tebow could definitely steal the spotlight from the other QBs. The fourth QB in the comptetion is Matt Barkley, who has a longshot opportunity at starting Week 1.

With all of the analysis covered on these four QBs, it is safe to say that the starting QB job should go to Tim Tebow. This may shock a lot, especially Mark Sanchez, who said Tebow was just a camp QB, but Chip Kelly shut that down, saying Tebow is a QB and will be looked at as such. His past experience has him as my front-runner for the starting job.
