Football WINNER$ – DIVISIONAL WEEKEND by Jared Smith January 13, 2017 What a strange weekend, arguably the worst slate of wild card games I’ve ever seen. Blowouts were up and ratings were down. It was so bad, the NFL is already in panic mode, moving this week’s Steelers/Chiefs game to primetime on Sunday. It will be the first time in NFL history a playoff game has been played at 8 pm on a Sunday night. All four favorites and home teams covered last weekend and I expect more of the same this weekend. There is a big gap between the haves and have-nots in this league. Playoff Record: 1-3 Divisional Playoff WINNER$: PATRIOTS -15.5 vs. Texans Do I even need to write this one up? Sure the Texans might cover this astronomical number, but there’s no way I can back Houston in this spot. FALCONS -4.5 vs. Seahawks The last time these two met in the postseason, Atlanta won at home 30-28 in the 2012 Divisional round. I expect the same type of game this time around with the only different being the Falcons’ defense. Vic Beasley led the league in sacks this year and Seattle’s offensive line will have problems this weekend containing that Falcons front seven. Packers/Cowboys Over 52 **BEST BET** This is going to be a classic shootout in what is my favorite match up of the weekend. The Packers can’t stop the run and the Cowboys have the best rushing attack in the league. Meanwhile the Cowboys can’t stop the pass, and the Packers have Aaron Rodgers. Smells like an over to me. Last team to have the ball wins. CHIEFS -2 vs. Steelers This game was originally scheduled for 1 pm on Sunday but an “ice storm” has forced the NFL to push it back to primetime. Sorry I’m not buying that. Sure there will probably be bad weather in Kansas City on Sunday afternoon, but that shouldn’t stop a football game from being played. In 1982 the Bengals and Chargers played a game with -59 degree wind chills. Unless fire and brimstone are raining down from the sky, there is no excuse to move an NFL game because of weather. This is purely a ratings grab by the NFL after seeing the low numbers produced by last weekend’s Wild Card duds. Regardless, it should still be a great game. I believe in this Kansas City team and I think they are the only squad capable of knocking off Tom Brady and Co. Gimme KC by a field goal.
