With Deflated Bullpen, The New York Yankees loose another in Baltimore

Finale of the series will take place on Sunday

The New York Yankees were defeated by the Baltimore Orioles 9-4 on Saturday night behind Manny Machado’s four RBIs.

The Yankees saw a 2-0 lead slip away in the fourth when Oriole left fielder Nolan Reimold hit a two-run home run over the wall in right off of Yankees starter C.C. Sabathia to tie the score at two. In the fifth, Oriole third baseman Manny Machado hit a two-run homer into the bullpen in left to give the Orioles the lead. In the top of the sixth inning the Yankees tied the score on a two strike two-run homer by who else but Alex Rodriguez. The runs batted in were Rodriguez’s 2,000 and 2,001 of his career.

Rodriguez becomes only the second player to ever reach 2,000 RBIs after the stat became official in 1920. A-Rods homer in the sixth was his 12th of the year.

The 4-4 ballgame rolled into the bottom of the sixth and Yankees new call-up Chris Martin came into pitch. Martin gave up a leadoff double to Orioles catcher Matt Wieters, followed by a wild pitch moving Wieters to third. Oriole shortstop J.J. Hardy hit a chopper up the middle that eluded the glove of a diving Didi Gregorious and into center for an RBI single. The Orioles would tack on two more in the inning including a two run single that put the Orioles up 7-4. In the inning, Chris Martin uncorked three wild pitches, allowed three runs and would take the loss.

The Orioles would tack on two more runs in the seventh including a pinch hit home run by David Lough.

When it was all said and done, the Orioles had seven extra base hits against Yankees pitching, and the Yankees would lose their third straight, after winning eight of their previous 10. With the loss and a Tampa Bay win, the Yankees are now tied with Tampa atop the American League East, with the Toronto Blue Jays who have won 10 in a row, one game out followed by Baltimore who are winners of their last six, two games out.

The finale of the series will take place on Sunday in Baltimore. It will be Adam Warren for the Yankees against Mike Wright for the O’s. First pitch is scheduled for 1:35.
