Soccer With one big kick, Taylor Lytle and Sky Blue FC defeat the Houston Dash by Staff Post July 10, 2016 (Photo by Jeff Auger – Double G Media) This week’s match up versus the Houston Dash had all the makings of a difficult match. The first challenge for Sky Blue FC Coach Christy Holly, was going to be what lineup he put on the field. With some key members not available for the match (Kelley O’Hara-playing for the USWNT, Caroline Stanley and Kim DeCesare-injured), others would have to step up and play big if they wanted to walk away from Saturday’s match with three points. There was no panic. There was no lack of communication. They came out with aggression and set the tempo as they immediately set the Houston Dash players on their heels. That pace finally paid off in the 54th minute with a blast off the foot of Taylor Lytle giving Sky Blue FC a 1-0 lead. That was all Sky Blue FC was able to cash in on but it was enough as their defense stood strong in front of a shut out performance from goalkeeper Caroline Casey. The veteran leadership of always high-flying Tasha Kai and “Captain America” Christie Rampone combined with the youth movement, led last night by Sarah Killion (player of the game) worked out perfectly. I mention the youth movement because these are all players Caroline Casey, Leah Galton, Kristin Grubka, Raquel Rodriguez (nominated for an ESPY) and Erica Skroski are all the future of the sport. Over the past few weeks, Sky Blue FC seems to have found it’s stride. More trust in their game. More pushing the pace. Whatever buttons Coach Holly has pushed, his team has responded and are now prepping for next week against Boston.
