MMA Woodley’s First Title Defense at UFC 205 against ‘Wonderboy’ by Kristine Haugsjaa September 16, 2016 Photo Credit: Joshua Dahl-USA TODAY Sports Against attempts to get his super fight against basically anyone else in the division, UFC Welterweight Champion Tyron ‘The Chosen One” Woodley will make his first title defense against #1 contender Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson at UFC 205 on November 12th at Madison Square Garden. Woodley (16-3) made the announcement on the FS2 weigh-in show Friday afternoon for Saturday night’s FS1 card, UFC Fight Night: Poirier vs. Johnson. Since winning the belt over former champion Robbie Lawler in July, “The Chosen One” has used social media to create hype and speculation around a super-fight against former champion and legend, George St. Pierre. He even called out Stockton-bad boy Nick Diaz, who recently came off his 18-month suspension. New York native, “Wonderboy” (13-1) has defeated some of the biggest names in the 170-division, including former champion Johny Hendricks and more recently former UFC welterweight Rory MacDonald, undoubtedly earning his shot at UFC gold in his home state. Keep your fingers crossed and stars wished upon fight fans. UFC 205 is forming nicely with only one injury bug hitting early. (Lawler out of Cerrone fight) With this match-up as the anticipated c0-main event, does this set us up for McGregor vs. Alvarez for the lightweight title as the headliner?
