World Cup Finalist Argentina Comes To NY Area For Friendly Against Ecuador

Two South American nations will be doing battle at MetLife Stadium in East on Tuesday as  Lionel Messi and Argentina’s star-studded roster will be playing a friendly match against Ecuador, who showed promise in the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

Argentina is coming off of a devastating loss to Germany in the World Cup finals.  The late goal from Mario Gotze of Germany trumped their dreams of glory.  But on Tuesday, all the buzz will be centered on F.C. Barcelona’s captain, Lionel Messi.  The Argentine has won four Balon d’Or trophies over his career and is considered the best player in the world by many.  A chance to see a player with his accomplishments and skill may never come again.  Several other world-class players join him up front.  Sergio Aguero of Manchester City has been one of the best strikers in all of Europe the past few seasons.  In the midfield, Angel DiMaria of Manchester United is a dynamic playmaker who posses lightning quick speed.

Ecuador has called two of their best players to join the squad for this friendly match as well.  Enner Valencia and Antonio Valencia were their key players during the World Cup.  Enner transferred to the Premier League’s West Ham this summer after his performances in Brazil wowed many.  Antonio has been playing well this season for Manchester United and will be in charge of shutting down his Manchester United teammate, Angel DiMaria.

There’s not many opportunities to see these world class soccer players in the tri-state area. Hipmunk.com will get you to the stadium, so you can watch some of the most talented players the sport has to offer. Hipmunk has flights to and from New York City that will have you a metro ride away from the stadium. After watching soccer, Hipmunk can help you take in more of the city, offering a variety of New York City hotels from $85 and higher.

Last week Argentina beat El Salvador in a friendly match in Washington D.C.  Ever Banega and Federico Mancuello were the two Argentines that got on the score sheet.  A late free kick goal from Mancuello in the 88th minute sealed the deal in favor of Argentina.  Lionel Messi did not play in that match due to injury concerns.  In his place was Carlos Tevez and Gonzalo Higuain, two prolific strikers who play in Italy.  On Saturday in Los Angeles, Ecuador also partook in a friendly match against Mexico.  Real Madrid’s Javier Hernandez scored the only goal in that game as Mexico went on to win 1-0.  With so much talent on both teams these two sides are likely to put together an exciting performance full of goals.
