WrestleMania 35 To Take Place At MetLife Stadium

With additional shows at the Barclays Center, WrestleMania’s return to the NY/NJ area is officially a go

WrestleMania is coming back home, sort of. WWE sent out a press release to confirm that WrestleMania 35 would take place once again at MetLife Stadium. Don’t forgot to bring a coat!

A previous report by Barstool Sports’ Robbie Fox a few months back talked about MetLife hosting another WrestleMania. Philadelphia and Detroit were also in the running. It did help that WWE will have a show scheduled Friday night, March 16 at Madison Square Garden, where an announcement like this could boost sales. The date for the event is Sunday, April 7, 2019.

The last time WWE was at MetLife Stadium was WrestleMania 29. 80,676 fans showed up, giving the event a gross total of $72 million. The Shield made their WrestleMania debut, The Undertaker had a classic with CM Punk and the main event of the show featured John Cena facing The Rock. It may have been the final performance of The Rock’s in-ring career. Interestingly enough, there were no women’s matches on the card. Times have certainly changed, especially with the Women’s Evolution and the addition of Ronda Rousey.

Like last time out, the show will be considered a “New York” event. The Barclays Center will be the home of all other events related to WrestleMania, including the WWE Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony, NXT TakeOver, Monday Night Raw and SmackDown Live. No word yet on where Axxess will take place.

WWE has a history with WrestleMania in The Empire and Garden State. WrestleMania I was inside “The World’s Most Famous Arena”, before returning for WrestleMania X and XX. New Jersey previously held WrestleMania’s IV and V in Atlantic City.

With an ever-growing market in the New York / New Jersey area and a stacked roster, having another WrestleMania at MetLife Stadium seems like a no-brainer.

New Jersey Lieutenant Governor Sheila Oliver and representatives from the Giants and Jets will be holding a press conference tomorrow at MetLife. Several WWE stars will be in attendance. Double G Sports‘ Scott Rogust will be right there with all of the coverage. Ticket information for WrestleMania 35 has not been announced yet. Stay tuned for more details.
