WWE Mock Draft 2016

This Tuesday, WWE will look to shake things up once again. The company will bring back the brand split on the premier episode of SmackDown Live. Wrestlers will be drafted to a specific show and PPV’s will become brand exclusive, just like it was in the early 2000’s. One thing that is guaranteed is that it will be a night full of surprises. Anything can happen, which makes this event must see TV.

WWE.com posted the rules for the draft, with some very interesting points (hint: NXT).

  • Raw has the first overall pick
  • Since SmackDown Live is a two-hour show and Raw is three hours, for every two picks SmackDown Live receives, Raw will receive three picks
  • Tag teams count as one pick unless a Commissioner/General Manager specifically only wants one member of the team
  • Six draft picks will be made off the NXT roster

Before the rules came out, Double G’s own Sarah Holzberg and I decided to conduct our own draft. With Sarah being Stephanie McMahon (Raw) and me as Shane (SmackDown), we battled it out to see who would go where. Regardless of who is drafted, it is assumed that champions will still be able to defend their titles on both brands. We also took into account the rumors that former starts could return after Tuesday. Thanks to a coin flip, SmackDown had the first pick. The draft was the best way to see who was the best fit (in our eyes) for the New Era in WWE.

Both sides look stacked if I do say so myself. What do you think?

While being as civil as possible, we both had ideas of who we wanted to represent our brand. In the end, Raw looked to continue to be the premier show, while SmackDown looked to reclaim the dominance it had in the early 2000’s. How similar will our draft be when the real thing happens Tuesday? It looks like we’ll have to tune in to The USA Network at 8pm to find out.

And with the first pick in the 2016 WWE Draft, Monday Night Raw selects…
