Yankees Hot Corner – Will Didi wear pinstripes next season?

If Monday’s move means anything, it looks as though Didi Gregorius is out as the shortstop of the Yankees.  The Yankees declined to send Didi a qualifying offer, thus making Gregorius a free agent.

Didi’s offer was worth $17.8M for one year.  If the Yankees had picked up the option, Didi could have accepted or rejected it.

The Yankees don’t need Didi, as they can bring Gleyber Torres over to short.  However, losing a fan and clubhouse favorite, in addition to a clutch hitter, wouldn’t be advised.

It really all depends on what the Yankees feel Didi Gregorius is worth.  If the Yankees want to keep Didi, they’ll work out a deal with him.  If they don’t think he’s worth a large contract, then he’s gone.

There’s still plenty of time to get a deal done but Didi Gregorius may not be in pinstripes come next season.  If not, there will be plenty of people criticizing that move.
