Yankees news: Damon, Hairston, Wang, Jeter getting married

Lot’s of player movement around Yankee world but one of them may be getting married? Is the captain ready to bring on a mate?

Ladies, I hate to ruin your week when its only Monday but apparently Derek Jeter is getting married. Jeter and girlfriend Minka Kelly have set a date to be married November 5th at the Oheka Castle in Huntington, Long Island. The Oheka Castle has hosted many high end parties for royalty and other weddings. It is the second largest private residence in the country. The Yankees shortstop was apparently engaged in August but kept things quiet because he did not want anything to overshadow the Yankees playoff and eventual World Series Championship.

Jeter has an impressive list of former girlfriends. Mariah Carey, Jessica Alba, Vanessa Minnillo, Lara Dutton, Adriana Lima, and Jordana Brewster are just a few of the names the Yankees captain has been linked to over the years.

His bride to be is a 29 yeard old actress from California. Kelly is most known for her role in the TV series, Friday Night Lights. The actress has been seen many times watching Jeter and his teammates from his private seats at Yankee Stadium. She was in attendance when the Yankees won the World Series last season.

Congrats to Jeter and Minka!

Other Yankees news:

– The Yankees seem to be in serious talks with Jerry Hairston Jr. Hairston was a part of the Yankees championship team last season. The Yankees likely view Hairston as a possible platoon option in left field as well as someone that can backup Jeter and Alex Rodriguez. Including the Yankees, five teams seem to have serious interest in the utility players.

– Chien-Ming Wang has told some friends that he is prepared to move on from the Yankees. Earlier this offseason, the Yankees declined to offer Wang a contract.

– Some league executives “are absolutely convinced” Johnny Damon will end up back with the Yankees in 2010. However for that to happen, Damon will likely need to significantly lower his asking price. If Damon does not get any long term offers, I could see him returning to the Yankees on a one year deal.

– Many people believe the Yankees are not willing to bring in a long term left fielder because they plan to pursue Carl Crawford when he becomes a free agent after next season.
