Baseball Yankees, A-Rod Meet in New York by Staff Post February 10, 2015 The New York Yankees released a statement on Tuesday night announcing that the team had held a meeting with controversial slugger Alex Rodriguez, per his request, at Yankees Stadium. “Today we held a meeting at Yankee Stadium between Hal Steinbrenner, Randy Levine, Brian Cashman, Jean Afterman, Alex Rodriguez and Jim Sharp,” the team said in a press release. “Alex initiated the meeting and apologized to the organization for his actions over the past several years. There was an honest and frank discussion on all of the issues. As far as the Yankees are concerned, the next step is to play baseball in spring training.” Sharp is Rodriguez’s attorney, according to the release. The meeting follows Rodriguez’s recent sit-down with new commissioner Rob Manfred. Rodriguez, who is approaching age 40, missed all of last season after he was suspended for performance-enhancing drug use and his connections to the Biogenesis scandal. Right now it is unclear what type of production, if any, Rodriguez can bring to the Yankees. The Bombers are wary of putting him in the field after two hip surgeries and he has not played a full season since 2012. As far as the apology goes, fans and the Yankees alike should keep in mind that this is not the first time Rodriguez has said sorry. Remember spring training in 2009?
