BaseballYankees/Brewers: Top Home Run Clubs Battle at Yankee Stadium by Staff Post June 27, 2011 If you have tickets in the outfield at Yankee Stadium this week during the three game series between the Yankees and Milwaukee Brewers, bring your glove! The chances of balls reaching you out beyond the outfield wall, are favorable. The Yankees and Brewers are Major League Baseball’s top two home run hitting teams as of this morning. The three game series in the Bronx opens Tuesday. The Yankees have hit 111 home runs this season. First baseman Mark Teixeira is tied for te Major League league with 23 home runs. Curtis Granderson is just two behind at 21. The Yankees also have other capable power bats in Robinson Cano (14) and Alex Rodriguez (13).Milwaukee comes in with 91 homers, one more than the Texas Rangers for second place among all teams. The Brewers lead the National League in home runs.It should come as no surprise that Prince Fielder leads the team with 21 homers. The big first baseman is a threat to go deep every time he steps in the box. Every once in a while, he even produces a loud, monstrous homer.Ryan Braun sits close by with 16 home runs and second baseman Rickie Weeks has 14 so far this season. Fielder and Braun are also both hitting over .300 on the year. The Yankees (.448) lead MLB in slugging percentage while the Brewers are fourth (.422).New York enters the series with a half game lead in the American League East and Milwaukee holds a three game advantage in the National League Central.Freddy Garcia, A.J. Burnett, and CC Sabathia will attempt to hold down Milwaukee’s big bats and give New York a chance in each game. The Yankees will face some tough pitching this series. Zach Grienke will start Tuesday’s series opener and be followed by Shaun Marcum and Randy Wolf. Grienke had a slow start to the season, including missing time with injuries. He is however beginning to find his groove. The Yankees have seen all three pitchers before. Grienke and Marcum are former AL pitchers so the Yankees have seen them a number of times. New York has had success against both in the past. You never know what can happen. Major League Baseball’s top home run hitting teams may come up empty against each other. Of course the flip side is that fans could be in for an exciting series if you like the big bombs. Home runs or not, this series has the makings of a great one.
