Yoenis Cespedes (New York Daily News)

It turns out all Yoenis Cespedes needed to get hot was a change in scenery. He hit three of the Mets’ seven home runs against the Phillies at Citizens Bank Ballpark. All three of his home runs were moonshots that resulted in the Mets winning three games in a row.

The Mets were seemingly running on empty before their series against the Phillies. Everything clicked tonight however, as all the major role players impressed with their offense. Tonight was all about Yoenis Cespedes however. His three home runs traveled 411 feet to center field, 428 feet down the left-field line and 382 feet to left. He also hit a double later in the game to finish with five RBI’s. Cespedes became the only Mets player to ever have two, three home run games.

What could have sparked this magical night for the outfielder? Three factors come to mind:

  1. He was excited to play against a division rival
  2. The weather warmed up, giving Cespedes a smoother swing
  3. He was looking to make a statement after Edubray Ramos threw behind Asdrubal Cabrera the night before.

Whatever it was, the Mets will surely take this outburst.

It was a great game for Yoenis Cespedes and the entire team. Other notes from the game:

  • Matt Harvey had another good outing, going 5.2 innings, allowing five hits, two earned runs, one walk and threw six strikeouts. We were told he left the game early due to a tight left hamstring, but manager Terry Collins stated to the media after the game it was just cramping. Harvey himself stated he fully expects to make his next scheduled start.
  • Asdrubal Cabrera had a game to remember, going 4-for-6 with one HR and 2 RBI’s.
  • Jay Bruce continued his hot streak, hitting another home run (he did go 1-for-6 however). He is currently hitting .276 on the season.
  • Travis d’Arnaud went 3-for-4 with one home run and three RBI’s.
  • Another player who did well was Lucas Duda, who hit two HR’s and went 4-for-6.

If everyone can continue to produce the entire MLB will be put on notice. They need the spark plug of the team to get things going. Everything starts and ends with the horse riding, cigarette smoking, home run crushing, King of New York, Yoenis Cespedes.
