Seth Lugo (Rising Apple) Tonight is the night we find out who wants it more. At 9pm, the World Baseball Classic concludes with either Team USA or Puerto Rico standing on top. On the hill for the latter is Seth Lugo, a man who is looking to join the Mets’ rotation as the fifth starter. If this tournament has told us anything, Lugo is more than ready for that role. Seth Lugo started for the Mets last season to fill spots left behind from injured pitchers like Jacob DeGrom. In 64 innings last year, Lugo had a 2.67 ERA. Along with Robert Gsellman, the 27-year old showed a taste of what he could be if given the chance. The World Baseball Classic has become his playground, and Mets fans are satisfied with what they see. In his first outing in the WBC, Lugo was excellent. Against a powerful Venezuela lineup, Lugo threw 5 1/3 innings of scoreless baseball. He also struck out three, allowed no walks and gave up one hit. The man has been the go-to guy whenever the team needs a big win. Sound like someone the Mets could use in the rotation? This will be a rematch for the ages. This past Friday, Lugo held the American team to three earned runs in 5 2/3 innings. Team USA did not look so good. A few days later and they are in the finals of the World Baseball Classic for the very first time. If there is one thing to like about the WBC, its that it has been very unpredictable. Something has got to give when two powerhouse’s collide. It will be a great chance to see what Lugo can do with all of this pressure. Will his blond haired teammates join him on the mound to celebrate a victory, or will Team USA bash their way to the top? Find out tonight at 9pm on the MLB Network.
