Michael Conforto (NY Daily News)

At one point, Michael Conforto was fighting for a roster spot. Yesterday, he found out he was going to make his first All-Star appearance. Life works in mysterious ways sometimes.

Mets manager informed Conforto of the news. He is the lone representative for the team, beating out Jay Bruce and Yoenis Cespedes. Conforto was selected via the player vote. He joins several Mets stars from the past to become an All-Star. An interesting stat is the age in which he will be a part the Midsummer Classic:

If everything works out well, he’ll have plenty more years to become an All-Star.

The 24-year old has been on quite a journey. He just made the Mets roster when Juan Lagares went down with an injury days before Opening Day. While fans were requesting for Terry Collins to “#FreeConforto”, the Mets manager sat him through many games in April. Due to injuries dominating the team, Conforto was finally able to get his moment to shine. He eliminated any doubt his peers may have had, batting .321 with 11 home runs from April 20th until the end of May. In addition, his defense became a gift from the Gods. Conforto could do no wrong. In conclusion students, Conforto became a baseball machine.

Speaking to the media, Conforto discussed his feelings after the announcement. Additionally, he talked about his journey from then until now, stating:

“It’s a dream come true. It was a pretty cool moment for me this morning finding out. A lot of hard work went into it… I always had a feeling that even if I didn’t start with the team I knew I was going to be able to make an impact at some point. This makes it a little more special.”

Conforto is currently hitting .285 with 14 home runs and 41 RBI’s in 69 games. Right now, the outfielder is on the DL with a bruised left hand. Plans may change, but Conforto stated he expects to actually play for the Mets on July 8th, when he’s expected to return from the DL. If that was to be the case, he could be active for the All-Star Game. While Terry Collins won’t want to rush into things, he would be ecstatic if Conforto could rejoin the team.

If Conforto gets a chance to play, expect him to put on a show. Whether it’s an outfield assist or a hit up the middle, Conforto will look to not waste the opportunity he has been given.

The 88th All-Star Game will take place on Tuesday, July 11th in Miami, Florida.
