New York Mets – Citi Field (Boston Globe)

The New York Mets announced in a press release that their scheduled exhibition game against the Army baseball club on Friday, March 31st will now take place at Citi Field. The game was originally set to be played at West Point. The decision for a change in venue was a result of last week’s snow storm making conditions on the field over at Point West unplayable.

Despite the change in venue, nothing else has been affected. Game time will still be at 1:10pm, while tickets will be $10. Ticket sale proceeds will be donated to the Mets Foundation. Parking will also be free during the event. All active and retired military members with military identification will be allowed to attend the game along with one guest for free.

The Mets and the Black Knights will be playing 7 innings of competitive baseball. In time’s of trouble, its great to know there is a backup plan. The Mets will make sure to make everyone’s experience a great one, even if they have to travel somewhere else for it. With the weather hopefully holding up, fans can expect a beautiful day at the ballpark.

Boo Corrigan, the Director of Athletics for Army West Point, discussed the situation in the release. He stated:

“We are all very disappointed that the weather did not cooperate and provide our cadets and the West Point Community an opportunity to witness this incredible event. I can’t thank the Mets organization enough for their support and willingness to move the game to Citi Field. We greatly appreciate the relationship we have built and hope the team can visit West Point for an exhibition game in the near future.”

As Corrigan said, it is an incredible gesture by the team. This will be the ninth exhibition game between the New York Mets and the Army baseball club. The last game played between the two was in 1984. What a way to end Spring Training! It will be a great tuneup match before Opening Day against the Braves on April 3rd.

General admission tickets are available at mets.com/army or by calling (718) 507-TIXX.
