Jerry Blevins (NEWSDAY) In a move that was reported a few days ago, the Mets have officially re-signed Jerry Blevins to a one year deal, with a team option for 2018. The deal is reportedly worth $6.5 million. To make room for Blevins, the team designated Ty Kelly for assignment. With Adam Rubin leaving the beat for PR, someone needed to step up. Blevins himself broke the news to Mets fans: httpss://twitter.com/jerryblevins/status/829744182512275461 Acquired on March 30, 2015 from the Nationals, Blevins was a key part in “The Amazin’s” push to the postseason last year. In 2016 he made a career-high 73 appearances and stranded 47 of 55 inherited runners, tied for the most stranded runners in the majors. He went 4-2 with a 2.79 ERA and had 16 holds. When it comes to both sides of the plate, Blevins was cool, calm and collected. Last season he held right handers to a .182 (10-55) avg. and left handers batted .255 (26-102). In his 10-year career with Oakland, Washington and NY, left handers have hit .214 (140-655) v. Blevins. Along with the signings of Fernando Salas and Tom Gorzelanny earlier in the week, the addition of Blevins gives the Mets bullpen a much-needed boost.
