Tim Tebow (Bleacher Report)

Did you think we were done talking about Tim Tebow? Think again.

The former Heisman winner played his first professional game today for the Columbia Fireflies, the Class A affiliate of the Mets. There has been a lot of hype for his debut, as fans were waiting to see what he would do. Batting seventh for the team, Tebow drilled a 2-1 pitch over the 372-foot sign in left-center field.

A highlight of the hit was him stopping at second base. Tebow believed it was a double, before the umpires confirmed it was a home run.

As you can tell, the crowd went wild for Tebow’s shot. In his second at-bat of the game, he grounded out to short. It was definitely an improvement after a Spring Training in which he batted .148 with eight strikeouts in 27 at-bats.

Something to note: the 29-year old hit a home run in his first at-bat in the Instructional League.

There are some that think the former Florida Gator doesn’t belong in the majors after his football career didn’t pan out. They also believe its a PR stunt by the Mets. The effort he gave during today’s game could be the right step to proving his critics wrong. Fans can now rush to a Fireflies game just to see what he does next. His career is forming in front of their very eyes.

It appears after a brief hiatus, we are on Tim Tebow watch again. This should be very interesting after he joined the team in September of last season.
