One of the best rivalries in UFC history officially gets it’s second act.

Daniel “DC” Cormier and Jon “Bones” Jones will finally square off July 29 in Anaheim, California, for the UFC light-heavyweight title at UFC 214.

The main event was officially announced at UFC’s ‘Summer Kickoff’ press conference ahead Friday.  The rivalry between Jones and Cormier has been boiling over for years, including a scuffle backstage after the announcement.

The two first fought in 2015 with Jones scoring an unanimous decision win, retaining his 205-pound title for the eighth straight time. Jones was then stripped of his belt shortly after following hit-and-run incident in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Jones fled the scene after striking another car.

Jon Jones Looking For Redemption

Once widely considered the world’s best pound-for-pound fighter, Jones was pulled from a fight against Cormier at last summer’s UFC 200 shortly after news about the positive test for two banned anti-estrogen agents, which he claimed was a result of a sexual-enhancement pill. Jones was later stripped of his UFC interim light heavyweight championship when an arbitration panel denied his appeal.

The announcement represents the latest attempted restart of his career. A career that was flecked with limitless promise when he became the youngest champion in the organization’s history in 2011. Since then he hit the skids outside the octagon in recent years.

Cormier Wants To Avenge His Only Defeat

Cormier is out to prove he is a real champion. Daniel Cormier has rattled off four straight wins since losing to Jones. During that stretch Cormier has successfully defended his title four times, He earned two submission wins over Anthony Johnson, a unanimous-decision defeat of Anderson Silva and a split-decision triumph against Alexander Gustafsson. Not only is that an impressive four fight streak, it’s shows his improvement from that defeat by Jones.

Will DC solidify himself as the true champion at 205-pounds or will Jones take back what he never lost?
