Bridgewater, NJ-   The Somerset Patriots (23-26, 65-54) defeated the Bridgeport Bluefish (23-27, 64-56) 5-2 at TD Bank Ballpark on Sunday to complete the series sweep.

The Bluefish took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning on an RBI single by Wellington Dotel.

Somerset answered in the bottom of the frame with a grand slam by Kyle Roller (19), his second of the season, for a 4-1 advantage.

“[Bluefish starting pitcher Rainy Lara] threw me a couple fastballs and changeups down,” Roller said. “He has a good changeup so I was just trying to see something up and out over the plate. He left a pitch middle and away and I was able to get the bat head out there. He pitched a real good game. I was looking for a mistake and got one. ”

Roller’s RBI fielder’s choice in the fourth inning put the Patriots up 5-1.

Bridgeport cut the lead in the top of the ninth inning on an RBI double by Dotel for the 5-2 final score.

Efrain Nieves (3-4) picked up the win, allowing a run on six hits in five innings pitched. Lara (9-8) suffered the loss, allowing five runs (one earned) on eight hits in five innings pitched.

The 2017 Somerset Patriots Season presented by Ford will continue at home on Monday night with a 7:05 pm game against the Lancaster Barnstormers. The game features Bark In The Park Night. For tickets, visit www.somersetpatriots.com.
