Bridgewater, NJ – The Somerset Patriots have announced that right-handed pitcher Scott McGregor has been re-signed for the 2017 season. “I’m excited to get the season going and ready to meet the new team,” said McGregor. “I enjoyed the time I spent in Somerset last season so I’m looking forward to the opportunity to come back.” McGregor enters his second season with the Somerset Patriots and second in the Atlantic League. The righty began the 2016 season in Somerset before the Nexen Heroes of the Korean Baseball Championship purchased his contract in early June. McGregor went 4-4 with a 3.35 ERA and 31 strikeouts to just six walks over 59 innings pitched in his nine starts with the Patriots. That included a complete-game effort on May 12th against the Long Island Ducks in which he yielded just one run on three hits. The Cincinnati, Ohio native spent the first five years of his career in the St. Louis Cardinals organization and reached Triple-A Memphis in 2013 and 2014. McGregor later signed with the Washington Nationals organization in the middle of the 2014 season, and continued to split time between Double-A Harrisburg and Triple-A Syracuse that year before spending all of 2015 with Syracuse. He recorded 14 wins at the Triple-A level in 62 appearances (49 starts) spanning from 2013 to 2015, including a 6-6 record with Syracuse in 2015. “It is great to have Scott join our pitching staff again in 2017,” said Somerset Patriots manager Brett Jodie. “He has a dominant fastball at times when he is able to locate it, and has experience both as a starter and as a reliever. Scott also possesses a true cutter, works quick and the defense loves to work behind him. He did a nice job for us last year and our hope is he will continue that success this season.” The 2008 15th-round draft pick is 50-51 with a 4.35 ERA, two saves and 478 strikeouts over his eight-year professional career. Tickets to the 2017 Somerset Patriots Season presented by Ford, which includes the team’s 20th Anniversary, are on sale now.
