WASHINGTON D.C. – Now there is only one.

The Philadelphia Soul and Washington Valor brought 1-0 records into their second games of the season as the last two undefeated teams in the AFL. The Soul made sure their record remained unblemished.

The Soul capped off their second straight game with a 49-31 victory over the newly formed Valor.

The teams met for the first time ever as the Valor play their first season in the Arena Football League and the Soul showed no sympathy for the newcomers. 

Experience was the defining factor as the defending champions, who have yet to play a home game in Philadelphia this season, swarmed Washington with suffocating defense.

It was not a good start for the men in grey and powder blue as they trailed the Valor 21-7 late in the first quarter. While they answered back, Philadelphia still found themselves trailing 31-28 at the half.

From there, the Soul were able to outscore the Valor 18-0 in act two and prevented Washington from doing much of anything positive.

Despite a dominating second half, head coach Clint Dolezel was still not impressed. Figures, considering Dolezel is expecting back-to-back championships or bust.

“Tonight was not one of our strongest performances,” Dolezel said. “We held the Valor to a scoreless second half but there is still some more work to do.”

While Dolezel expects perfection, quarterback Dan Raudabaugh had another banner day and is already making the case for another MVP award by seasons end.

Raudabaugh completed 23 of 36 passes for 247 yards and five touchdowns, including three in the second half. Even with these numbers, he might have some MVP competition from fellow teammates.

Wide receivers Darius Reynolds and Shaun Kauleinamoku continued their stellar play on Saturday night. Reynolds reeled in six balls for 76 yards and three touchdowns while Kauleinamoku caught 12 for 125 yards and two touchdowns.

Perfection certainly seems attainable with Raudabaugh throwing to two excellent receivers that never seem to slow down week-to-week.

It was a quiet night from Ryan McDaniel as he only caught five passes for 46 yards. McDaniel, who earned a spot on the Soul a few years ago via the open tryout, drew a lot of tight coverage in order to open up gaps for his teammates. 

In a season of firsts, the Soul will go from facing one new franchise to another. Philadelphia will finally host their first regular season game in week four.

The Washington Valor suffered their first franchise loss to the Soul and next week, Philadelphia will look to stay undefeated against the Baltimore Brigade.
