The New York Riveters re-signed three, Miye D’Oench, Kiira Dosdall and Alexa Gruschow to one-year contracts for the 2017-2018 National Women’s Hockey League season on Thursday. 

As the unrestricted free agency period opened on Thursday, the three players returning to Newark, New Jersey, gives the Riveters a total of 10 players from last season. Goaltenders, Katie Fitzgerald and Sarah Bryant, defenseman and captain, Ashley Johnston as well as forwards, Rebecca Russo, Tatiana Rafter, Lauren Wash and Julia “Cheeky” Herr re-signed with the organization earlier in May. 

D’Oench, a five-foot-four forward, played all 18 games for New York last season. She put up five goals and nine assists during the regular season. The New York native, played four seasons at Harvard University as she scored 64 goals and 58 assists in 135 games.

Prior to going to Harvard, the St. Anne’s School alumnae played with the New Jersey Rockets Under-19 team. She served as a captain of the team for two seasons. She was also a captain of the Mid-Fairfield Stars in 2008-2009. 

The four-year participant of the USA Hockey National Development Camp, where she was an All-Star in 2009 and 2011, helped the United States Women’s National Under-18 team take home the silver at the 2012 World Championships. 

The AP Scholar with Honors and National Merit Commended Student, was acquired by the Riveters prior to the 2016-2017 from the Boston Pride in exchange for Alex Carpenter. D’Oench has a black belt in Seido Karate and enjoys skiing. 

Gruschow, played in all 18 games during her rookie season. The five-foot-six forward from Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania scored two goals and eight assists, with the Riveters. 

In 133 games at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, put up 46 goals and 47 assists. In 34 games during her senior season, she led the team in goals (13), power play goals (5) and shorthanded goals (2). Prior to attending RPI, Gruschow played for the Washington Pride of the Junior Women’s League, as she put up 48 goals and 60 assists in 62 games.

The Mechanicsburg Area High School alumnae, played four years on the boys’ hockey team, ran four years of track and two years cross-country. She was named to the All-Central Pennsylvania Interscholastic Hockey League as a senior. The team was a Viola Cup Finalist in 2012. 

The National Honor Society, National Spanish Honor Society and Scholar Athlete set records in the 300 and 800 meter hurdles. During her senior season, she finished fourth in the state track meet in the 800m, and came in 33rd during her freshman year in cross-country. 

 Dosdall, returns for her third season with the Riveters. Over the first two years the blueliner has managed to score three goals and eight assists in 35 games. 

In four years at Colgate University, where she served as team captain her senior year, she put up 11 goals and 52 assists, while protecting the blue line for the Raiders. The Connecticut native is the second highest scoring defender in Colgate University history. 

After attending Colgate, she went across the pond to play for the Vienna Sabres, as she helped the club win four straight championships in Austria. While with the Sabres she and Riveters teammate, Janine Weber, were teammates and roomies.

While being a trailblazer on the ice, she is also helping to shape young girl and boy athletes off the ice and in the education as well. In addition to her job with Riveters, she also works as a project specialist with a company that hosts digital or online classrooms, called Schoology. (www.schoology.com)

The 2017-2018 NWHL season begins in October as the Riveters, Pride, Connecticut Whale and Buffalo Beauts will battle for the rite to take home the 2018 Isobel Cup. All four teams will play the full slate of their home games, in addition to a few neutral site matchups, as the league looks to grow the game even further.
