Devils, Prudential Center To Host Annual Food Drive

The New Jersey Devils and Prudential Center announced on Thursday that they will hold their annual food drive, in collaboration with Goya Foods, to support the Community FoodBank of New Jersey on Saturday November 14 when they host the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Fans are being encouraged to bring canned and non-perishable food items to the game, to help replenish the CFBNJ. Devils wives and girlfriends and volunteers from the CFBNJ will be on hand to collect the items at the entrances of the Prudential Center.

Devils fans that bring 10 or more items for the drive will receive two complimentary tickets to a future home game during the 2015-2016 season.

Last season, Devils fans helped collect more than 16,000 pounds of food during the 2014 food drive. Prudential Center and New Jersey Devils President Hugh Weber said, “As leaders in our community, we are fortunate to be able to leverage the amazing power of sports and entertainment to make a difference.”  He added, “Community FoodBank New Jersey is an outstanding organization that we are proud to support and we are proud to partner with Goya Foods to double the impact we will make this holiday season.”

Goya Foods the largest Hispanic-owned food company in the United States and a large supporter of many community organizations and initiatives, will match all donations pound for pound. The donation is part of the Goya Gives Campaign.

President of Goya Foods, Bob Unanue said, “We are proud to be part of this year’s annual food drive and strongly believe in helping to provide much needed food to those who are without, through our Goya Gives campaign, we hope that others will be inspired to do the same.”

The food drive kicks off the Devils and Prudential Center’s Season of Giving, marking the first of four annual initiatives. The Jersey Cares Coat Drive, presented by PSE&G will take place on November 27 as the Montreal Canadiens make their way to Newark. The United States Marine Corps Toys for Tots program will take place on December 11, when the Devils take on the Detroit Red Wings.

The fourth initiative will be the Equipment Drive benefitting hockey diversity within Newark and Jersey City on February 19 versus the New York Islanders. In addition to all of the donations made during all four of the drives, the proceeds from the in game 50/50 raffle, will also benefit those four community partners.
