Baseball Somerset Patriots Re-Sign INF Scott Kelly by Somerset Patriots February 11, 2016 Bridgewater, NJ – The Somerset Patriots have announced the re-signing of infielder Scott Kelly. “I am definitely looking forward to getting back on the field for Operation: Repeat,” said Kelly. “[Brett Jodie] and I have a good understanding on the outlook this season. My job will be to produce with my opportunities and help this team win.” Kelly enters his third season with the Somerset Patriots. Last year, the New Jersey native appeared in just 31 games due to injury, but still hit .337 with 10 RBI, 20 runs scored and seven stolen bases. Defensively, he made appearances at second base, third base and shortstop. Kelly began his minor league career with the Somerset Patriots in 2014 after earning an invitation to Spring Training from the team’s Open Tryouts. That year, he led the team in stolen bases (20) over his 92 games played. “Scott is just a joy to have on the team. He loves the game of baseball and brings every bit of his passion to the field everyday,” manager Brett Jodie said. “Scott is a plus defender with great speed. He also is very underrated at the plate. He has worked extremely hard to improve his physical and mental baseball skills, and I think this could be the year it comes together for him.” The 24-year old played his college ball at The College of New Jersey, where he hit .345 and .346 in his last two seasons, respectively. Additionally, he is the all-time leader at TCNJ in at-bats (663) and stolen bases (98), while ranking second in runs scored (165) and fourth in games played (161). Kelly has 52 runs scored and 27 stolen bases in 123 games over his two-year professional career. The Somerset Patriots won their Atlantic League leading sixth championship during the 2015 season.
