The Connecticut Whale Sign Three for 2018-2019 NWHL Season

The Connecticut Whale added three players to their 2018-2019 National Women’s Hockey League roster on as they have announced on Tuesday, that former Harvard University and Unified Korea Olympic forward, Randi Griffin, American Hockey Coaches Association All-American, Sarah Hughson and second-year player Hanna Beattie have inked contracts.

Griffin, the North Carolina native who represented Korea during the 2018 Pyeongchang Olympics had her best collegiate season at Harvard during her senior year, as she scored 11 goals and 10 assists in 34 games. She represented the Crimson from 2006 through 2010.

During the Olympics she scored a goal for the Unified Korean team in their matchup against Japan. Griffin also represented South Korea during the 2017 and 2018 International Ice Hockey Federation World Championships.

She said, “I’m delighted to be part of the Whale as we contend for the Isobel Cup, and grateful to the NWHL because it is an incredible platform to be able to train and compete while continuing to play for Team Korea in international competitions. The Whale were my first choice because I live in Connecticut and they clearly have the best uniforms.”

Griffin, who is finishing her PhD in Biological Anthropology from Duke University later this summer added, “My teammates on Team Korea are definitely among my top inspiration to keep playing. As long as I am having fun and keeping up with the kiddos, I want to keep going. Plus, I want to see my teammates at the World Championship in China next year!”

Hughson, from East Haddam, Connecticut, was an AHCA First Team All-American at Elmira College this past season, as she scored 28 goals and 21 assists in 30 games. In 98 games throughout her collegiate career, she scored 45 goals and 42 assists.

Beattie returns to the Whale for her second season, after skating in 12 games during the 2017-2018 campaign. The Whitehouse Station, New Jersey native, scored 15 goals and 29 assists in 84 games for Williams College in Williamstown, Massachusetts.

Prior to her collegiate career at Williams, Beattie represented the Pingry School Girls’ hockey and lacrosse teams. She served as the captain of both teams during her senior year. She also represented the New Jersey Colonials on the ice.
