(Big3.com) The Big 3, a new basketball league created by Hip Hop icon Ice Cube, will begin its inaugural season on June 25 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. “Brooklyn has been on our radar since we started the BIG3,” Ice Cube said in a statement on Big3.com “From the pickup courts to the pros, New York’s hoops history is unrivaled. Legends are born here, and kicking this thing off at the iconic Barclays Center could not be more fitting.” The three-on-three basketball league will feature former NBA stars and former players, including Allen Iverson, Chauncey Billups, Jermaine O’Neal, Kenyon Martin, Rashard Lewis, Mike Bibby, Ricky Davis, Al Harrington, Stephen Jackson, Corey Maggette, Bonzi Wells and Jason Williams. Additionally, a number of former stars will also serve as coaches, including Rick Barry, Clyde Drexler, George Gervin, Gary Payton and Rick Mahorn. Iverson will serve as a player-coach. A player combine and draft will be held in April. Big 3 Leauge In a Nutshell The league will be a 10-week long season. Four games will be played each week in a new city, concluding with the championship game on Aug. 12. Each team will feature five players (including two subs), three of whom will be drafted by the captains and co-captains in order to keep even lineups. Like most three-on-three games, the competition will be played on half court with clears beyond the three-point line. Early speculation says there will be a four-point circle to give shooters an extra point from that spot on the floor. The game will also start with a do-or-die shootout from half court to gain possession. Halftime comes when one team scores 30 points and the game ends when someone reaches 60, winning by at least four points. I don’t believe this will turn into an XFL experience, but time will tell if the Big 3 league catches on with the fans . Early indications says it will be a summer success.
