BlueClaws Drop Pitching Duel vs. Greensboro 1-0

It was one of those games that neither team deserved to lose.  Aaron Knapp’s single off Lakewood BlueClaws reliever Zach Warren in the eighth would prove to be the only run of the game and gave the Greensboro Grasshoppers a 1-0 win in the opening game of the series.  The win moved the Grasshoppers record to 6-4 and dropped the BlueClaws to 5-6.

BlueClaws starter Conner Brogdon hurled five scoreless innings allowing just two hits while striking out six and walking none. But Brogdon was out dueled by Grasshopper starter Edward Cabrera who threw a sparkling six innings of no-hit ball, before handing it over to the bullpen.  Bryce Howe (1-0) earned the win and closer RJ Peace (SV 1) settled things down in the ninth for a Shorebirds win.

The BlueClaws managed just one hit before a crowd of 1,547 fans who witnessed a game that was completed in a lightning fast 2:20.

The teams continue the series Tuesday at 6:35pm.  The BlueClaws David Parkinson (1-0 with a 0.00 ERA) faces Brady Puckett (1-1) in game two of the series.
