Baseball Bluefish Top Patriots 10-4 by Somerset Patriots May 17, 2016 Bridgeport, CT – The Bridgeport Bluefish (8-16) scored eight unanswered runs to defeat the Somerset Patriots (17-8) 10-4 in the series opener at Harbor Yard. The Patriots squandered two different leads and committed a season-high three errors. This was their largest margin of defeat this season. “We have not been real consistent with some of the plays we should make,” said Somerset Patriots manager Brett Jodie, whose squad has committed five errors during his team’s three game losing streak. “I think we are trying to make the exceptional play instead of just focusing to get the simple out. We just have to concentrate more on fundamentals.” Aharon Eggleston recorded an RBI on a sacrifice fly in the third inning to give Somerset a brief 1-0 lead. In the ensuing half inning Rossmel Perez and Luis Rodriguez notched RBI hits to put the Bluefish in front 2-1. Matt Fields tied the game at 2-2 in the top of the fourth inning with a home run (3) to left field. The Patriots added a run in the fifth and a run in the sixth via an Eggleston RBI single and a Yovan Gonzalez RBI double respectively. It was all Bridgeport the rest of the way. The home team scored three in the sixth, four in the seventh and one in the eighth. They capitalized on errors committed by Darwin Perez, Scott Kelly and Brad Snyder. Veterans Wilkin Ramirez and Dan Johnson combined for five RBI. Starter Jonathan Albaladejo (2-1) earned the win, lasting 6.0 innings and surrendering four runs on nine hits. Reliever Mike Thomas (2-1) took the loss for Somerset. The last 10 Patriots batters were retired in order. “We have a bunch of veterans,” said Gonzalez. “We just need to slow down and take a deep breath. I’m confident we will make the necessary corrections. The 2016 Somerset Patriots season presented by Ford continues on the road until the team returns to TD Bank Ballpark on Friday, May 20th for a 7:05 p.m. game against the Long Island Ducks.
