Hockey Connecticut Whale Sign Fourth Year Defender, Shannon Doyle by Chip Gianni August 22, 2018 The Connecticut Whale announced on Wednesday that fourth year player and Boston University defender, Shannon Doyle, has re-signed for the 2018-2019 National Women’s Hockey League season. The top notched defender started her collegiate career at Colgate University, before transferring to Boston University. In 137 games, she put up 14 goals and 64 assists between the Raiders and the Terriers. Doyle said, “Being able to play for the Whale since its inaugural season has been a tremendous experience. Seeing the growth of women’s ice hockey both through the talented players who compete in the NWHL year after year, and the ever-growing fan base has been an experience I am honored to be a part of.” The 26-year-old defender has skated in 48 games for the Whale, where she has put up two goals and 15 assists while patrolling the blue line. On the International level, the Baldwin, Ontario native represented Team Canada at the 2010 Under-18 International Ice Hockey Federation World Championships in Chicago, Illinois. Doyle helped her country capture the gold during the tournament. Last summer she represented her country at the International Street and Ball Hockey Federation World Championships in the Czech Republic. The tournament’s leading scorer was also named an all-star. She is proud to be an original member of the Whale saying, “The Whale have worked hard to create a culture of hard work, dedication and excellence from day one to this upcoming season. I’m excited to be able to continue playing a role in the development of this organization. It is an honor to play alongside fantastic teammates who are equally valued for their talented on-ice abilities and their genuine love for the game we play.” The Whale will open season four, with their home opener at Terry Conners Ice Rink, in Stamford, Connecticut, as they face off against Isobel Cup Final runner-up, Buffalo Beauts on Sunday October 7, 2018 at 3:00 PM. They will then hit the road for their next six matchups, including a neutral site game at the UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex, in Cranberry Township, Pennsylvania against the defending Isobel Cup Champion, Metropolitan Riveters on December 2, 2018. While the game in the Pittsburgh area will be considered a home game for the Whale, they don’t return to Connecticut until December 30, 2018 to battle the Boston Pride.
