Hockey Connecticut Whale Sign Meghan Huertas by Chip Gianni January 4, 2017 The Connecticut Whale of the National Women’s Hockey League signed former University of Vermont and University of Minnesota-Duluth forward Meghan Huertas on Tuesday. Huertas spent four years of her collegiate hockey career between Vermont and Minnesota-Duluth. In her 120 games, she has put up 28 goals and 32 assists. Her senior season in 2014-2015, she recorded her best statistical season as she lit the lamp 11 times with eight helpers for the Minnesota-Duluth Bulldogs. The Boynton Beach, Florida native played in the Junior Women’s Hockey League with the North American Hockey Academy prior to beginning her collegiate career at Vermont. Whale General Manager, Lisa Giovanelli said, “Meghan’s a tenacious player who will be an excellent addition to our team.” Huertas said, “I am excited to join the NWHL and proud to become a member of the Connecticut Whale. It is an opportunity to achieve my dream of playing professional hockey and competing against some of the best players in the world.” She will join the Whale this week as they open a four-game stretch at home at the Northford Ice Pavilion beginning on Saturday January 7 against the Buffalo Beauts. The Whale will then host on the Boston Pride on Sunday January 15 and then again Friday January 27. The New York Riveters will visit the Whale on Sunday January 29. The Whale also announced that they are looking for Connecticut girls’ youth teams that would like to scrimmage during intermission of their home games for the rest of the season.
