David Wright officially activated from the 60-day DL

In what could be his final MLB homestand, David Wright has been activated from the 60-day DL

The most emotional week for this generation of Mets fans has officially begun. David Wright has been activated from the 60-day disabled list. For the first time since 2016, number five is an active member of the Mets’ roster.

To make room for Wright, the Mets placed Eric Hanhold on the 60-day DL.

Wright spoke to the media earlier today (September 25) about what this week means to him:

“To say it’s a good feeling is an understatement. It’s been a long time coming and I can’t wait to put that jersey on tonight for sure. A lot of time, a lot of hard work, so to be able to suit up and go out there, and just the opportunity to get the chance to play means the world to me.”

It has been a long road for David, who has dealt with a multitude of health issues over the years. From spinal stenosis to neck and shoulder injuries, Wright has managed to bypass the pain in order to make it back to the game he loves. It wasn’t until earlier this month where it was announced he would be activated and start on September 29. The time it took to work on bettering himself was takings its toll, ultimately resulting in the planned start.

After this week, it is unknown what the future holds for David Wright, but it appears this will be his last major league season. Manager Mickey Callaway said Wright would get some pinch-hitting opportunities before the 29th.

One of the most beloved members of the organization, David Wright leads in almost all the all-time Mets records. What is believed to be a sendoff will hope to be another tip of the cap moment of the man the Flushing Faithful proudly call their captain.
