Hockey Devils Sign Matteau and Helgeson. Larsson and Zacha Next? Matteau and Helgeson sign two-year deals. by Chip Gianni July 21, 2015 Stefan Matteau (Jim O’Connor-USA TODAY Sports) The New Jersey Devils continued their quest to become a younger, faster team with some of their recent signings during the offseason. In addition to avoiding an arbitration hearing with Eric Gelinas earlier last week, they resigned young forward Stefan Matteau to a two-year contract. The Devils selected Matteau with the 29th pick in the 2012 Entry Draft. Matteau, entering his third year with the Devils organization, split time last season between the Albany Devils and the big club. He made his debut during the 2012-2013 season before being returned to the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada of the Quebec Major Junior League. The son of former New York Rangers 1994 playoff hero, Stephane Matteau, spent two seasons with the United States Development Program from 2010 to 2012. Matteau, represented Team USA at the 2014 World Junior Championships. The Devils also announced that they had resigned young defenseman Seth Helgeson, to a two-year contract. Helgeson, also enters his third year with the organization after splitting time last season in Albany and Newark. The Devils drafted Helgeson 114th overall in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft. Next up for the Devils new General Manager, Ray Shero, is trying to avoid the arbitration hearing with 2011 fourth overall pick, Adam Larsson by resigning him to a new contract as well as getting their 2015 first round pick, Pavel Zacha, his entry level contract.
