Baseball Ducks Shut Out Patriots To Force A Decisive Game 5 In Division Series by Somerset Patriots September 24, 2016 Bridgewater, NJ – The Long Island Ducks (2-2, 72-68) shut out the Somerset Patriots (2-2, 77-63) 2-0 in Game 4 of the Liberty Division Series at Bethpage Ballpark on Saturday evening. With the win, the Ducks have forced a deciding Game 5 Sunday in Long Island. Shaun Garceau (0-1) took the mound for Somerset with the ability to clinch the series and move on to the championship. He gave the Patriots everything they needed to win for 6.2 innings, making just one mistake in the third inning when Anthony Vega put the Ducks up 2-0 on a home run (1) to right field. All four Long Island hits came in that inning. “[Garceau] had Vega out in front and he caught exactly the right part of the bat there. He kept his hands back enough and kind of flipped it out there and that’s all it takes sometimes,” said Somerset Patriots manager Brett Jodie. The Patriots outhit the Ducks in the loss, but couldn’t plate any runs in the three innings the team threatened. After a 10-run shutout win on Thursday night, Somerset’s offense has struggled, mustering just one run the past two games on a solo home run by Bryan LaHair in Game 3. “We spread our hits out a little too much and were never able to get that big one to drive in runs,” added Jodie. “We were right there ready to strike, but their starter did a great job, so did ours. It was a pitchers’ duel and they came out on top.” Jarret Leverett (1-0) went seven scoreless innings with five strikeouts to earn the win. Todd Coffey got the save (1), allowing a hit in a scoreless inning of work. The 2016 Somerset Patriots Season presented by Ford will continue on the road in Long Island for Game 5 of the Liberty Division Series on Sunday evening at 5:05 pm. Should the Somerset Patriots advance to the Championship Series, the team will host Games 3-5 (if necessary) at TD Bank Ballpark beginning on Friday, September 30th at 7:05 pm.
