As the Isles head off to the West, a look back on the last week of action.

In the past week the Isles have lost three and won one. The curse of third jerseys might be no more as it was the only game the Isles won, defeating the Devils 2-1. Brock Nelson and Casey Cizikas netted goals in the win.

After a devastating loss this past Sunday to the Boston Bruins the Isles need to change it up on the west coast.  Coach Capuano has made some serious changes to his line-up, sending Ryan Strome back to the Bridgeport Sound Tigers, recalling defenseman Adam Pelech, and benching Josh Bailey. The question is how will Cappy start off against the San Jose Sharks.

Although the Isles lost this past Sunday, the boys sported military camouflage warm up jerseys in honor of Military Appreciation. The jerseys were auctioned off and the proceeds were donated to charity. The players personally donated $30,000 to provide tickets to more than 300 retired and active service military members and their families. In addition, the Islanders matched the players’ gift, making the total donation $60,000.

“It’s important that the men and women who protect us overseas are recognized, supported and applauded for their service,” Johnny Boychuk said. “We are able to play a sport everyday because of the sacrifices they make, so we’re happy to invite them to our game to relax and make some fun memories with their families.”

“It speaks to the leadership and character in our locker room that the players took it upon themselves to start up a collection for military appreciation night,” Islanders President and General Manager Garth Snow said. “The New York Islanders are proud to join the players in supporting our nation’s active military and veterans by matching the donation.”

In regards to the standings, the Isles are ranked fifth in the Metropolitan Division with 17 points. Keep the coffee running all night because the games do not start till 10:00/10:30pm eastern this week.
