Aaron Judge (Adam Hunger-USA TODAY Sports) Only two players in Major League Baseball have hit more home runs than New York Yankees rookie Aaron Judge so far this season. Ryan Zimmerman (Washington) and Eric Thames (Milwaukee) enter May having hit 11 homers. Judge has ten so far this season, tying him with Khris Davis of the Oakland A’s for the American League lead. For baseball fans across the country, every time the Yankees right fielder steps to the plate, it’s become a must watch event. Judge is quickly becoming known as a threat to put the ball out in the outfield seats. He’s also proving to be one of the strongest players in the game. His hits continuously come off the bat with astonishing speed. He hasn’t just hit home runs, many of Judge’s round-trips have been in the 450-foot range. Judge has hit ten home runs in 22 games (76 at-bats) as the calendar turns to May. Davis has hit his ten homers in 24 games (82 at-bats). No other rookie in Major League Baseball has more than five home runs this season. His 20 RBI also lead all rookies and put him tied for 20th overall in the category (fifth in AL). Judge has been a big reason why the Yankees have surprised much of baseball with their 15-8 start to the 2017 season. The Yankees, despite having catcher Gary Sanchez and shortstop Didi Gregorius miss much of April with injuries, lead the American League in home runs and runs scored. They are also fifth in the all of baseball in team batting average, second in the American League behind the Boston Red Sox. With his success at the plate, Judge has put himself right in the early American League Rookie of the Year talk.
