Prior to the New York Rangers preseason finale against Boston yesterday evening, the team announced that Oscar Lindberg won the 2015 Lars-Erik Sjoberg Award — an annual award handed out to the rookie who performed the best in the preseason.

To earn this accolade, Lindberg had two goals and one assist and a plus-two rating in four preseason games. This was of course prior to Wednesday night’s game against the Bruins during which Lindberg added another assist to finish with two for the preseason.

Lindberg joins a long list of Rangers stars to have won the award, including Mike Richter, Henrik Lundqvist, Mark Staal, and Derek Stepan.

The Rangers then closed out the preseason on a positive note with a 3-2 victory over the Bruins. Viktor Stalberg got his second goal of the preseason, J.T. Miller got his first, and Rick Nash scored his first as well. This is a positive for the team as they look forward to getting Nash, their highest goal scorer from a year ago, going as the regular season starts back up again. Henrik Lundqvist had a strong game in net as well, stopping 39 of 41 shots he saw.

The Rangers finally drop the puck on the regular season next Wednesday the 7th at 8:00 pm against the reigning Stanley Cup Champion Chicago Blackhawks on NBC Sports Network.
