HockeyMetropolitan Riveters to Play for Champions Cup in Sweden by Chip Gianni June 5, 2018 Isobel Cup Champions Face Off with SDHL ChampionsThe National Women’s Hockey League and the Swedish Women’s Hockey League (SDHL) announced on Tuesday the 2018 Isobel Cup Champions, Metropolitan Riveters will face off against the SDHL Champions, Lulea Hockey in the Champions Cup at Norrbotten Arena in Sweden.The three-game tournament will take place Sept. 26-30. The two championship clubs will also take part in a youth clinic for the future stars of the local community in Sweden. All three games of the first Champions Cup will be played even if one of the clubs wins the first two games.Dani Rylan: “…The NWHL and Riveters looking forward to memorable week of hockey in Sweden.”NWHL Commissioner, Dani Rylan said, “The inaugural Champions Cup, in partnership with our friends at the SDHL, launches the first series between champions in professional women’s hockey in North America and Europe. Over time, we anticipate that it will expand. Our goal is to further expose the women’s game and these athletes and role models to fans around the world. The NWHL and Riveters are looking forward to a memorable week of hockey in Sweden.”Katie Fitzgerald, Riveters netminder and Isobel Cup Most Valuable Player added, “My teammates and I are looking forward to playing in the first Champions Cup, competing against the great players of Lulea, and shining a light on the game and the NWHL in Europe. It is a privilege to have this opportunity and we are going to make the most of it.”The game times and ticket information will be released at a later date.
