Baseball Patriots Open Second Half With 3-1 Win by Somerset Patriots July 5, 2016 Waldorf, MD – The Somerset Patriots (1-0, 39-32) topped the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs (0-1, 26-44) 3-1 Monday evening at Regency Furniture Stadium. The game featured 112 minutes worth of rain delays and fireworks delays. “The last few days has been all about mental toughness,” southpaw reliever Brandon Sisk said. “We’ve had some really long games, long travel and lots of delays but we stuck together. It was important to get off to a good start in the second half.” Zach Wilson hammered a home run (7) in the bottom of the first inning to give the Blue Crabs an early advantage. It was his third home run and ninth RBI against Somerset in 11 games this year. On the very first pitch of the fifth inning, Trayvon Robinson launched a home run (8) to even the score at 1-1. He has five more home runs than he did all of last year and the club isn’t even at the All-Star Break. Somerset used some good situational hitting in the top of the eighth inning to take the lead. Both David Vidal and Bryan LaHair recorded RBI sacrifice flies that proved to be the difference in the 3-1 win. Sisk (2-3) earned the win. He threw two perfect innings. Of the 17 pitches he threw, 14 were for strikes as he struck out three batters. “The bullpen is a brotherhood,” the first year Patriot Sisk said. “We have a competitive nature down there and we have confidence in each other.” Over the last three games the Patriots bullpen has yielded one run in 14.0 innings of work. Scott Maine (0-2) sustained the loss allowing two runs in 0.1 innings. Jon Hunton (17) notched the save as he threw a scoreless final frame. Hunton is 10-for-10 in his last 10 save opportunities. The 2016 Somerset Patriots season presented by Ford continues on the road until the team returns to TD Bank Ballpark on Thursday, July 7th for a 7:05 p.m. game against the Lancaster Barnstormers.
