Patriots Open Series With Skeeters With 8-3 Win

spet01FINALSugar Land, TX – The Somerset Patriots (28-23, 78-43) defeated the Sugar Land Skeeters (22-29, 58-63) 8-3 Tuesday evening at Constellation Field. All nine starters recorded at least one hit for the Patriots.

 

In the top of the second inning third baseman David Vidal mashed a home run (8) to give Somerset a 1-0 advantage.

 

Catcher Chris Wallace evened the score at 1-1 in the bottom of the second inning as he laced a RBI double.

 

First baseman Travis Scott socked a RBI single in the bottom of the third inning to give the Skeeters a 2-1 lead.

 

The Patriots catapulted in front 3-2 in the top of the sixth inning as center fielder Jonny Tucker recorded a RBI ground out and another run crossed home via a throwing error by second baseman Renny Osuna.

 

Somerset added to its lead in the top of the seventh inning as first baseman Thomas Neal belted a two run home run (5) to up the score to 5-2.

 

Three more runs were plated by the Patriots in the top of the eighth inning to expand the margin to 8-2. Neal recorded a RBI sacrifice fly, shortstop Robert Andino tallied a RBI single and right fielder Michael Burgess ripped a RBI double.

 

Osuna blooped a RBI single to cut the deficit to 8-3 in the bottom of the ninth inning.

 

Zach Clark earned the win (1-1) tossing six innings while surrendering two runs. Andrew Johnston sustained the loss (2-2) giving up three runs in 1.2 innings of work.
