Patriots Tally Second Straight Shutout Of Skeeters

Bridgewater, NJ – The Somerset Patriots (18-12, 68-32) shutout the Sugar Land Skeeters (11-19, 47-53) 3-0 Monday evening at TD Bank Ballpark. It was Somerset’s second straight shutout victory and 16^th shutout victory this season.

In the bottom of the second inning designated hitter Mat Gamel socked a RBI single to give Somerset a 1-0 advantage.

The Patriots added a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to expand their lead to 3-0. Right fielder Michael Burgess stroked a RBI single and catcher Adam Donachie recorded a RBI sacrifice fly.

Will Oliver earned the win (1-0) in his Somerset debut has he dazzled. He tossed seven scoreless innings while only allowing one hit. Roy Merritt sustained the loss (5-4) hurling seven innings while giving up three runs. Jon Hunton notched the save (28) pitching the final inning.
