Patriots Top Ducks 3-2 With Three Solo Home Runs

july28FINALCentral Isilip, NY – The Somerset Patriots (13-6, 63-26) defeated the Long Island Ducks (7-11, 53-35) 3-2 Tuesday evening at Bethpage Ballpark.

 

In the top of the second inning center fielder Jonny Tucker smacked a solo home run (4) and left fielder Aharon Eggleston drilled a solo home run (2) to give Somerset a 2-0 advantage.

 

Designated hitter Michael Burgess hammered a solo home run (6) in the top of the seventh inning to expand Somerset’s lead to 3-0.

 

The Ducks got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the eighth inning as shortstop Dan Lyons laced a RBI triple and right fielder Fehlandt Lentini legged out a RBI infield single cutting the deficit to 3-2.

 

Sean Bierman earned the win (10-2) tossing seven scoreless innings as he surrendered four hits and struck out seven. Bruce Kern sustained the loss (5-2) hurling six innings while allowing two runs on five hits while striking out eight. Jon Hunton notched the save (24) pitching the final inning.
