Pete Alonso mashes his way to his second Rookie of the Month award

As he continues to shatter records left and right, Alonso will continue to be rewarded for it. For the second time this season, Alonso was named the Rookie of the Month for June.

In 28 games, Alonso hit an astonishing .307/.435/.653 with nine home runs, 21 RBIs and eight doubles. During that time, he broke Darryl Strawberry’s Mets rookie home record. He was on fire in 124 at-bats after struggling last month. His batting average up to the .280 mark through the month, Alonso’s home runs were things to marvel at, especially inside Citi Field.

Now hitting .275 with 28 home runs, Alonso continues where he left off. In April, he won the Rookie of the Month award for going .292/.382/.642 slash line with nine home runs and 26 RBIs. His recognition was deemed controversial after Padres pitcher Chris Paddack criticized the move.

If anything, this will further anger Paddack and continue Alonso’s cause in becoming Rookie of the Year.
