Plenty of Local Representatives to Participate in 2016 World Cup of Hockey

Locals to play in World Cup of Hockey

The New Jersey Devils, Philadelphia Flyers, New York Islanders and New York Rangers will be represented amongst the eight teams during the 2016 World Cup of Hockey September 17 through October 1.

Team USA will be represented Devils goaltender Cory Schneider, Rangers defenseman Ryan McDonagh and forward Derek Stepan. Colonia, New Jersey native and Washington Capitals defenseman John Carlson, Montreal Canadiens’ forward, Max Pacioretty, from New Canaan, Connecticut and Los Angeles Kings goalie and Milford, Connecticut native, Jonathan Quick also will play for Team USA.

The Canadian Team will be represented by Islanders captain, John Tavares. Rangers netminder, Henrik Lundqvist will be one of the goalies between the pipes for the Swedish team.

The Czech Republic will be represented by three Flyers. Forward Jakub Voracek, defenseman Radko Gudas and goaltender Michal Neuvirth. Islanders forward Nikolay Kulemin will skate for the Russians.

Team Europe which is comprised of the nations that do not have many National League Hockey stars. Goaltender Jaroslav Halak, from Slovakia and forward Frans Nielsen, from Denmark, will represent the Islanders. Rangers forward, Mats Zuccarello, Norway, and Flyers defenseman Mark Streit will also skate for Team Europe.

Team North America which will be represented by NHL stars 23 years of age and younger, as of October 1, from the USA and Canada will include Rangers forward J.T. Miller, Flyers defenseman Sean Couturier and Calgary Flames forward and Salem, New Jersey native, Johnny Gaudreau.

The full preliminary rosters can be found on nhl.com. Final rosters for the tournament is scheduled to be set by June 1, with the tournament slated to begin at the Air Canada Center in Toronto, Ontario on September 17 and run through October 1 2016.
